What Families Are Asking About Our Organic Meals

With us, meals are included in tuition and served daily, beginning as early as infancy.
Families often want a clearer picture of how our organic meal program supports children at different stages of development. Here’s a breakdown of how meals are planned, prepared, and adapted to meet the needs of the young learners in our care.

Infants from four months to one year follow an individualized Infant Feeding Plan developed by parents and teachers. Foods are introduced in stages, starting with purees and semi-soft textures prepared separately from other classroom meals. Certain ingredients – including added sugars and common irritants – are excluded at this stage to support healthy development.

As children grow, meals evolve with them. Preschool and early elementary students receive breakfast, lunch, and snacks made with locally sourced organic ingredients. Nutritious meals are designed to support energy, focus, and comfort throughout the school day. Families often see this consistency as a meaningful difference, especially when evaluating a preschool with organic meals.

Parents frequently ask how the program supports children who are hesitant to try new foods. In the classroom, children are encouraged to explore food at their own pace. Whole grains and legumes are introduced carefully, and familiar favorites often include vegetables blended into sauces, broths, and baked items to support balanced eating habits without pressure. We also share monthly menus and ingredient lists in advance so that families can introduce unfamiliar items at home.

Our program also emphasizes daily fruit and vegetable intake. Recipes are developed so that vegetables are included in savory meals and fruit appears in snacks. Many items – including tasty dips, hummus, sauces, and baked goods – are made in-house using fruit and vegetable purees. This approach helps children meet nutritional needs even when they are selective eaters.

Families also ask about dietary needs and allergies. The Brunswick School is a nut-free facility and provides substitutions for major allergens with medical documentation. Vegetarian meals are available upon request. The Head Chef works closely with teachers and school leadership, reviewing feedback regularly and adjusting menus to support student comfort and participation.

All meals are prepared using unprocessed or minimally processed foods. Sweeteners are used sparingly, and many staples – including baked goods, jelly, dips, and smoothies – are made in-house. When packaged items are used, they are carefully selected to meet the same ingredient standards. Transparency is central to the program, with ingredient lists shared monthly.
